Dodgers benefit from own lineup snafu

Don Mattingly's first day as Spring Training manager of the Dodgers ended in a 4-4 tie against the D-backs, but he'll probably remember it more for a baseball rarity.

That's because the Dodgers batted out of order as a result of their own lineup-card snafu, and Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier, given an extra at-bat in the fourth inning, hit a solo home run off Bob Howry.

"It's good to get that out of the way in the spring," Mattingly said.

The confusion started in the morning when the Dodgers posted their lineup in the clubhouse with Ethier batting third and Matt Kemp hitting fourth. That's the way the Dodgers started the game, and that's the way it played out for three innings. The problem, however, was that somehow bench coach Bob Schaefer filled out the official lineup cards for the dugouts and umpires with Kemp hitting third and Ethier hitting fourth.
